Can you reprimand a Pet Turtle?
Many months ago, to my shock and horror, I had come home to find one of my 2 turtles 'badly injured'.
Perhaps a better description is badly 'bitten'. (I'll spare you the flappy details.)
These two turtles were tiny when i first got them, and now they're larger than a CD. But one grew considerably larger than the other, and it's this "Bully" who's been biting at the smaller one, for no apparent reason but to be mean.
I removed the big one from the aquarium tank and put him (I assume they're both guy turtles, but I don't really know...) in a big clear rubbermaid container as punishment. I eventually put them back together since they looked so lonely in their respective containers...and they've been just dandy for months... until TONIGHT when i heard a thrash of water and found Bully snapping at his brother's head, which was tucked as far back into his shell as it could go. SIGH.
Bully is in his tupperware prison, which is sitting in the bathtub now. Will this 'teach' Bully that what he did was Wrong? Can turtles tell when they're being punished? Do any pet stores carry turtle muzzles?

Anyone out there in Cyberland have good turtle parenting suggestions?

I had named these turtles "Steve and Doug" after the Will Ferrell movie "Night at the Roxbury" - but i never remembered which name went with which turtle. So they're always called "Turtle". Now i think the Big one has earned the name "Bully" - and the littler one can be called "Buddy". Maybe those names will actually stick.
