The Experiment

My friend Niki has a set up on her site that if someone uses her Google Search Bar... she gets a commission. Sounds kinda cheesy, but if she's getting real $ just to have it on her site... it's kind of not so bad anymore!

Cut to the present moment. I'm looking for a fun T-shirt to get a friend - that has a somewhat 'inside joke' to it... the kind you might get 'lucky' to find at a Hot Topics... Anyway, as i'm browsing the tees, i see that they have an Affiliate Program... if anyone buys something from the link you put on your webpage... you eventually can make $ (I expect that it will take forever just to earn enough for them to cut you your first check though.)

What the heck right?

So I signed up...

Click To Go Shopping

Well, hopefully you can have fun 'window' shopping for quirky tees... who knows... you might find something... :)

To TIVO or Not to Tivo?

Yes, it's true.

Despite working for Entertainment Industry for the past 8 years, I have always just survived off Rabbit Ears for my TV viewing.

So I think I'm finally going to look into Cable or Satellite (probably Cable) - but it probably won't be worth it without something to record the shows I'm never home for...

Tivo is the 'brand' we've all heard of... but there seems to be lots of pros and cons. Pros - it records for you things you like and might like. Cons - Expensive and if the company goes away in a few years, we're stuck with expensive metal.

It'd be GREAT to have the ability to burn to DVD... probably the BIGGEST draw to stepping up in my TV Watching Technology...

Anyone have thoughts on this or are happy with their Cable Recording Decision?

I had a Soda

I've been trying to drink less soda, if i can help it, but today after a sweaty round of Softball Practice during my lunch hour... i felt it was well deserved.

So I had a Sprite.

My "virtual" puppy decided to help advertise it too...

The Give-It-A-Chance Movie of the Week

Okay...

If you're a Girl who saw a commercial for "Just Like Heaven" and thought, "Cheesy." or you're a Guy, period... here's my Give-It-A-Chance Appeal for this movie.

So it just happened to work out on a Saturday, that I caught this movie with a friend of mine. It's become a tradition to watch movies we consider "chick flicks" because we know our guys can not be dragged to the theaters to watch them with us.

This particular movie (Just Like Heaven) had just come out and my initial thoughts were that the premise seemed a bit too predictable and bland. Sadly, there was just not a lot of other movies choices in general. So we shelled out our Ten Bucks and considered that cheaper than strolling the shopping center for 95 minutes with too much to buy with too little $.

Perhaps it helps to go in with low expectations, but very quickly, Reese's character wins you over. A girl who works a little too hard and is just trying to do the right thing (advance her medical career) - hmm... somehow this character is VERY relatable. And just when things are going great... bam! That's where the story really begins. (Can you tell i'm avoiding key plot points, so i don't ruin the movie...)

Let's also say that Mark Ruffalo's character - also takes some time to warm up to. It's TOUGHER than you think to do these types of movies and not make it so that you're "expected" to like these characters, because usually for that simple reason, the audience finds they WON'T like the character. I thought that'd be the case with him. But after a while, he DOES win you over... and as cheesy as the movie's premise is - you begin to not care because you're having too much fun seeing how they figure out what to do next.

There's a bunch of other cameo roles in this movie that are really great as well. Like the guy who plays Napolean Dynamite - he's takes the 5 scenes or so that he's in the movie and milks it for all it's worth.

I am curious if others are finding this movie a pleasant surprise too. The theater was pretty sparse when we watched, but I just read that this movie topped the Box Office this weekend... so let's see if it fades away or lingers in the charts next week... :)

Poof! And the Computer Screens Went Black...

So my building was among the countless others in the Los Angeles area that lost all it's power around 1:30pm in the afternoon.

I was franticly trying to get work done, as I usually do, during the lunchtime hours - when suddenly the the pop sound of everyone's computers shutting down and the awkward silence of all things that run on electricity. (And a couple curses muttered out of mouths of those working on unsaved documents...)

Then a coworker informs us that they noticed on the news (before we lost our power) other parts of the city had lost all power, and that the cause was still unknown. Like zombies, we emerged from our cubicles, staring at each other in disbelief, wondering if this was some pre-cursor to some crazy Terrorism threat or that somewhere an Earthquake hit and destroyed some power lines, but no one must have felt it.

Another wave of "what if we can go home early?" poured through everyone's minds. Gosh, maybe we're all working TOO hard, and the universe decided to give us a break. Then within less than an hour, the power returned and we all trudged back to our cubicle cells and began recovering what we had been laboring over before the unexpected blackout.

It's things like this that make you realize... there's a LOT of things that could go wrong. Not trying to be a pessimist or anything, but every day you drive to work - aren't you amazed that all the drivers around you don't veer off from daydreaming or choosing the next radio station... and run you off the road? That more planes don't have a misglued piece or a faulty engine? That the structure you live in right now, doesn't have some mystery plumbing leak within the walls, causing mold and other harmful agents to your health? What took a DWP guy this long to accidently cross a few wrong lines in order to Black Out one of the busiest and most populated cities in California?

Makes you wonder. :p
